A remarkable technical monument in southwestern Slovakia – the water mill in Jelka is located in a beautiful nook on the banks of the Little Danube, which creates a meandering riverbed in the cadastral area of the village, approximately 23 km long. It is accessible via a dirt road (1 km) from the main road leading from the village toward Dunajská Streda. According to the memories of the former owner of the mill, rye was predominantly ground here, and it was done excellently. Farmers from far and wide came here to grind their grains into flour, semolina, and other products. The mill operated until April 1951. Since 1983, it has been listed in the State Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments of Slovakia. The Local Museum in Galanta prepared the technical survey and project documentation, and due to the emergency condition of the building, the mill was dismantled. The restoration of the building and the area of the water wheel mill was carried out thanks to the Municipal Council in Jelka from November 1992 over a period of 18 months. Near the mill, an open-air museum has been established, focusing on the agricultural history of the village of Jelka.
