The Roman Catholic church of Csiliznyárad is located in the main street of the village. For centuries the Catholics of Nyárad went to church in Medve and Balony. Gábor Sebő and Gábor Csicsay, two of the village’s great farmers, were the initiators of the church’s construction. Their request was supported by the parish priest of Balony and the archbishopric of Nagyszombat. So in 1929, in the centre of the village, the site of the new church was designated on the site of a former water reservoir. The groundworks were carried out by local farmers without any money. The construction of the church was undertaken by a contractor from Komárom, named Kazlek. The construction work took nearly 10 years, as the organisers were able to raise funds (in the village and the wider region) to cover the costs. The church was consecrated on 19 September 1939 in honour of the Virgin Mary. The church was consecrated by Dr. László Saly, Abbot-Canon of Győr.
