The bust, created by György Lipcsey, was erected in 2001 by the Municipality of Dunaszerdahely in cooperation with the Vámbéry Civic Association to honor the city’s distinguished native, Ármin Vámbéry, a scholar of the East and orientalist. As part of the Vámbéry Days celebration, a wreath-laying ceremony is held every March in tribute to the city’s famous son.
