King Matthias Corvinus visited Šamorín twice: on November 9 and 10, 1466, while on a campaign against the Hussites, and later on October 7, 1469. In honor of his memory, the city erected a statue located in front of the Town Hall. The statue depicts the monarch in his youth and was unveiled in November 2016, on the occasion of the 550th anniversary of his visit to Šamorín. The author of the statue is sculptor Ferenc Lebó from Győr.
