Walks on Žitný ostrov – Kolárovo

The water mill is a reconstruction of an original mill that operated in the village of Radvaň nad Dunajom near Komárno. The original mill was built in 1920 and owned by Béla Szivanyó. It operated until 1945, when it burned down under mysterious circumstances. Its destruction meant the loss of the last water mill on the Danube, which is the main reason the current mill was built. Construction began in the 1970s. Period photographs greatly helped the process, and the realization was significantly facilitated by a model created by former employee Lajos Swain. The idea was implemented in the 1970s and 1980s, and construction was completed in 1982. The mill was moved to its current location on May 25, 1995, when it became the property of nature conservationists in Kolárovo, and since then it has been considered a national cultural heritage site.

The educational trail consists of eight stops, starting with an information board providing general information about the area. Further boards along the route offer visitors insights into habitats created by still and flowing waters, open meadows, and floodplain forests. Illustrations on the boards present information about the plant and animal species living here.
