On the left bank of the Danube, in the southwestern corner of Slovakia, in the Žitný ostrov region, in the Csilizköz area, lies the ancient settlement of Medveďov. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1252 under the name Villa Medwe.

The old sacred building that stood on the site of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas was in such poor condition by the end of the 19th century that it had to be demolished. The foundation stone of the new church was laid in February 1899; it was consecrated on October 28, 1900, and reconsecrated on August 5, 1912.
During a walk along the riverbank, visitors can not only enjoy nature but also gain insight into the history of a Danube-side village.
At the mouth of a tributary stands a memorial to Soviet soldiers who lost their lives while clearing mines from the Danube after World War II.
When the water level of the Danube is low, a unique phenomenon can be observed: a shipwreck emerges from the water. The ship named Wotan belonged to the German fleet during World War II and was used for mine detection.
