The mysterious world, the wild animals, the colorful birds, and the countless species of monkeys from South American and African rainforests have amazed many and captivated us in childhood (and let’s be honest, also in adulthood). While the tour we offer may not lead through America or the “Black” continent, it may sound strange, but we invite you to the rainforest. How is this possible? The floodplain forests of the Danube are Central Europe’s equivalent of tropical rainforests.

A cycling and walking path leads from the village of Bodíky, along which we will set out to discover the secrets of the forests, and if we are lucky, we will see not only the flora but also the fauna.
Just like the Amazon in Brazil, the Danube shapes the life of the floodplain forests, as the river's branches have created a marshy landscape rich in islands that provides a home to thousands of species of fauna and flora. Although we may not encounter a jaguar, toucan, or anacondas, countless native species of animals can be found here, including a wintering ground for many waterfowl.
The hike we offer connects at this point to the built nature trail, which introduces individual topics - environmental protection, tree species, flora and fauna of the surroundings, etc., with the help of information panels.
At the end of the hiking trail, we invite you to the town of Gabčíkovo, where visitors can choose from excellent restaurants and admire the Amade Castle and park located in the town. However, the real attraction is the waterworks situated next to the town, which illustrates how humans have transformed nature to direct water to their advantage. Fortunately, the change in the course of the Danube has left some parts of the floodplain forests in their original state, thus forming a part of the natural treasure of the Žitný ostrov
