The Gate of Memory and an exhibition of six outdoor panels were erected by IQUS Civic Association in 2017 to mark the 720th anniversary of the first written mention of the village of Ižop. The creator of the memorial gate was Attila Nagy from Ižop, and the carved images were created by the woodcarver Dezider Németh from Mad.
The carvings depict the Reformed church located in the center of the village, as well as the characteristic occupations of the local inhabitants, namely fishing and agriculture. On small plaques, the artist carved both the former and the current name of the village.
The 720-year history of the village was documented by local historian Ladislav Varga in his book “Ižop – A Village on the Banks of the Čiliz”. The panels present information on the origin of the village name, its geographical location, the charter of King Matthias, the consequences of Turkish devastation, the Ižop Reformed Church, the Revolution and War of Independence of 1848/49, the impact of the Second World War, the schools that operated in the village, as well as notable personalities originating from Ižop.
