This stage of the Danube cycle path is one of the most popular and diverse sections, leading you through a landscape of impressive engineering feats and untouched nature. This circular route of approximately 50 km offers ideal conditions: it follows a flat, paved surface, making it easy and suitable even for beginners or families with children. Completing the tour at a leisurely pace with short breaks takes about 4 hours, but given the numerous attractions (museum, lookout towers, and local gastronomy), it is well worth planning as a full-day excursion.

Šamorín is one of the most exciting hubs of Rye Island, offering visitors a unique blend of historic small-town charm and modern sporting life. The jewel of the town is the 13th-century Reformed Church, which is one of the region's most valuable art-historical monuments with its unique medieval frescoes. The Local History House also invites you to discover the past, where you can see the forgotten tools of former crafts. Since Šamorín lies directly on the banks of the Danube, it is a favorite stop for cyclists on the international route between Bratislava and Gabčíkovo.
From Šamorín, we continue toward Bratislava on the EuroVelo 6 international cycle route. After barely 5 kilometers, we arrive in Hamuliakovo, a charming riverside village known primarily for its excellent sports and recreation facilities. The village's most precious treasure is the 13th-century Romanesque Church of the Holy Cross, adorned with stunning medieval frescoes. The harbor offers an unparalleled view of the reservoir – and the sunsets here are among the most spectacular in the entire Rye Island region.
Cycling from Hamuliakovo towards Bratislava, it is worth stopping at the "DUNA Bird Watching" lookout, which is not only a popular resting spot but also an excellent vantage point for observing the river's rich wildlife. Just a few hundred meters away, the Kalinkovo observation tower offers a breathtaking panorama of the reservoir and the distant mountains. For the truly adventurous, a unique experience awaits: a rope-guided ferry on the canal allows travelers to pull themselves across to the opposite bank using their own strength.
One of the most spectacular modern elements of the cycle path is the Floodplain Bridge (Lužný most), which spans the Danube with its monumental structure, creating a direct link between Rye Island and Transdanubia. Cycling under the bridge, you can admire the impressive scale of this structure from up close; despite its modern design, it harmoniously blends into the natural environment of the floodplain forests.
Crossing the Floodplain Bridge (Lužný most) to the right bank of the Danube, you can immediately join the levee on the far side, which is part of the EuroVelo 6 route. After about 3-4 kilometers, a well-marked junction allows you to turn towards Rusovce. The town's most impressive sight is the Neo-Gothic manor house, whose vast English park is accessible by bicycle and is an ideal place for a short break. For history enthusiasts, the ruins of the Roman military camp Gerulata, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are a must-visit.
Leaving the Čunovo dam system behind, a spectacular section unfolds along the levee. The Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum is not only one of the most spectacular contemporary art institutions in the region but in all of Europe. Its unique location, the monumental outdoor sculpture park and works by world-renowned artists all provide a truly unique experience for visitors.
On one side of the road, the vast reservoir stretches out, while on the other, the wild world of floodplain forests and hidden Danube branches unfolds—a true paradise for water birds. Here, the water surface reaches an almost sea-like scale: on a clear day, the peaks of the Little Carpathians emerge in the distance, providing a stunning frame to the landscape. Upon reaching Dobrohošť, it is worth visiting one of the local restaurants to enjoy the authentic flavors of traditional Rye Island cuisine.
Continuing our journey, we arrive in Vojka nad Dunajom after barely two kilometers. The local "csárda" has become a favorite stop for cyclists thanks to its excellent fish soup (halászlé) and crispy fried fish. The free ferry departing from the port of Vojka is not only a practical and fast way to cross towards Kyselica, but also a special experience, allowing you to admire the breathtaking panorama of the Danube directly from the water.
Getting off the ferry, we arrive at the quiet shores of Kyselica. In the village, it is worth visiting the Chapel of St. Rosalia, built in 1898, which adds a historical touch to a landscape dominated by modern waterworks. From here, heading northwest along the cycle path on the levee, we return to our starting point in Šamorín at a comfortable pace.
