The Roman Catholic church, named after Bishop St Augustine, was built in 1816 on the site of an old, probably Romanesque church in the neoclassical style, and was enlarged in 1830. The church is a single nave building with a square sanctuary, a tower built into the pointed front part and a sacristy attached to the church building. The façades are plain, with semi-circular windows, mullioned frames and the main façades are articulated by columnar pilasters. A plaque above the entrance bears the date 1830. The nave still has the cornice-headed pilasters on which the now-defunct Baroque arch rested. The nave is separated from the sanctuary by a triumphal arch. The east side of the nave, which holds the organ, has a masonry parapet. Above the high altar there is a wooden cross with a corbelled cross and a fresco of Jesus Christ on the vaulted ceiling of the sanctuary. On the altar itself are statues of St. Lazarus and St. Stephen, made by a Budapest firm. The walls of the nave are decorated with a dove-shaped sculpture of the Holy Spirit, a mural of Bishop Augustus and gilded angel sculptures. These are all from the now-defunct neoclassical altar, which was removed when the church was renovated around 1970. The pulpit, which dates from the time the church was built, was also dismantled at the same time. The side altar of Our Lady of the Seven Sufferings, with the central image of the donor, is a neoclassical work from the time of the church’s construction. Below are statues of Saint Teresa, Christ crucified and Saint Joseph. The marble baptismal font, with its carved Baroque-Classicist lid in copper, dates from the 1930s.
