A late Renaissance manor house, later remodeled in the Classicist style. The manor stands on the foundations of a medieval fortress (Eberhard Castle), built by the Counts of Svätý Jur, likely between 1344 and 1385. Featuring three towers and a moat, the fortress served to protect the crossing over the Little Danube into the Žitný ostrov (Rye Island) region. Archbishop Szelepcsényi had the fortress rebuilt into a manor house in the 17th century, as evidenced by an inscription bearing his coat of arms on the inner wall of the chapel he added to the complex. The manor acquired its present-day appearance following further Classicist renovations in the 19th century.
The Late Renaissance style chapel, dating back to 1677, forms part of the manor’s east wing. It served the local congregation as a church until 1953. Since then, religious services have been held in the modified and expanded Apponyi burial chapel near the cemetery—today known as the Church of St. George.
Until recently, the premises of the manor were used by a secondary horticultural school. However, following its relocation, the manor was left abandoned and has been falling into disrepair since 2010. Due to its rather poor condition, the interior is closed to the public. Interestingly, the courtyard boasts excellent acoustics, which is why it occasionally served as a venue for open-air musical and cultural events. The manor is surrounded by an English park featuring over 200 species of native and exotic trees, which remains open to the public today.
