The memorial, bearing the names of the former Jewish residents of Šamorín who were forcibly deported from the city in 1944 and murdered in death camps, was unveiled on June 19, 2022. It was created at the initiative of activists and local council members and was built through a public collection and with the support of the city. In 1941, fascist Germany adopted the so-called “Jewish Code,” based on which Jewish people were transported to concentration camps. More than 500 people—men, women, and children—were deported from Šamorín. Of these, only 36 people returned: 32 children and only four adults.
