From the historical point of view, the Komárno water supply system was one of the oldest after Bratislava and Trenčín. The tower reservoir is the oldest of its kind in western Slovakia. It originally covered the water needs of the entire city of Komárno, as well as the municipality of Új Szőny (the urban part of Komárom-MR).

The designs were drawn up in May 1901 by Zarka Elemér, who was a royal engineer in Budapest. The construction of the reservoir itself started in 1901 and it was put into operation on 15.8.1902.

The tower is 28 metres high and its total tank volume is 500 cubic metres.

At the beginning of the last century, the area near the tower was called Ráckert (Serbian Garden) and it was the football ground of the 1st KFC Komárom team.

However, due to increased pressure conditions in the water pipes, it is no longer in use, but it is still maintained in working order.

The structural and technical condition of the building can be characterised as good, it is a brick masonry building structurally undisturbed. The exterior was renovated in 1973. Reconstruction of the technological equipment (replacement of damaged pipes) was carried out in 1965-66.
