On the road from Šamorín to Gabčíkovo lies Horný Bar (Felbár), one of the villages on Žitný ostrov. Today, no one would guess that Jews once lived here. The only reminder that remains is a neglected but valuable Jewish cemetery. Like those in nearby Holice or the slightly more distant Réca, it is situated in the middle of a field, now without an access road.
It is in a deplorable state; the headstones are toppled, and some of the “richer” graves have been “examined” by being dug up. Nevertheless, this cemetery, along with registers and other records, attests that Jews lived here as well from long ago, approximately two hundred and seventy years ago.
From this period, more precisely from 1749, the grave of Mrs. Malka, daughter of Zalman Kohen and wife of Zanwil, the chazan/cantor, has been preserved. This is thus the oldest known grave in this cemetery to date.
